Research practice
Research practice for 6th-year students on the second (Master's) level of higher education belongs to the general training cycle, is conducted in the 4th semester. The form of assessment is a pass/fail test.
The description of the educational component “Research Practice”, its goals and outcomes, prerequisites and postrequisites, information on the organisation of the practice, learning materials, policies, forms and methods of assessment, requirements for the report content and assessment criteria are presented in syllabi.
Bases of scientific research practice
During their research practice, Master's students from the CTE department undertake tasks related to solving scientific problems in the field of computer science (fuzzy modelling and control; risk-oriented information security of distributed computer systems; methods for virtual reality synthesis; information protection; cloud technologies and services; hybrid intelligent systems; design, development, and support of information systems and technologies using modern methods, algorithms, models, and data processing technologies in information and computer systems, etc.), and participate in research, project work, and scientific seminars. Therefore, the bases for research practice must meet the following criteria:
- The scientific focus of the main activities of an enterprise or organisation.;
- the use of modern, cutting-edge technologies and tools in the field of computer science;
- the availability of qualified personnel with experience in solving research and development tasks and capable of supporting student research work to a high standard.
Therefore, agreements are concluded with both research institutions and commercial organisations operating in the IT field for the bases for conducting scientific research practice. The main ones are listed below.
V.M. Glushkov Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine began its work as the Computer Centre, established at the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR six decades ago and dedicated to research and development in the fields of cybernetics and computing. The Institute’s research topics were linked to all the key areas of development in cybernetics. Suffice it to say that in the USSR, the Institute at times carried out over 30% projects related to the application of cybernetic methods and computing technology.
Together with the Ukrainian state, the Institute has weathered the past years, overcoming crises, and today it is a scientific centre, well-known in Ukraine and abroad, which solves fundamental and applied problems of computer science and engineering, and implements their methods and tools in various spheres of human activity. Today, the main areas of the Institute's scientific research are:
- development of a general theory and methods of systems analysis, mathematical modelling, optimisation and artificial intelligence;
- development of a general control theory and methods and tools for constructing intelligent control systems of various levels and purposes;
- the creation of a general theory of computing machines and the development of advanced computing tools, artificial intelligence, and computer science;
- creation of perspective general and applied software systems;
- the development of new information technologies and intelligent systems;
- solving fundamental and applied problems of society's informatisation.
The Cybernetics Institute's team comprises professional scientists capable of solving the most complex problems at a modern level.
Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Established in 2003 as part of the Department of Physical and Technical Problems of Power Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, with the aim of further developing and coordinating research in the field of renewable energy sources and ensuring the application of their results, in accordance with Resolution of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine No. 299 of 10.12.2003.
The main activities of the Institute are approved by the Decree of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine:
- Physical and technical principles of solar energy conversion and utilisation;
- Scientific foundations of wind energy conversion and utilisation;
- Thermophysical principles of geothermal energy use;
- Scientific basis for the processes of conversion and utilisation of energy from small rivers and seas.;
- Scientific principles of the conversion and use of renewable organic energy sources.;
- Technologies and systems for the integrated use of renewable energy sources.
The operational activities of the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the field of project work began in 2006, when the institute obtained a State License for economic activities in construction, related to the creation of architectural objects. Specialists of the Institute received the necessary corresponding qualification certificates. A project group has been created at the institute, which includes certified specialists and leading scientific experts.
As part of the implementation of the State Programme, specialists from the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine took part in the development of projects for the creation of wind power stations.
