Between May 12th and May 16th, 2025 Delegation from the Department of Digital Technologies in Energy Name of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, part of Prof. Ausheva N.M., Assoc. Prof. Kaleniuk O.S., and 2nd-year student Yakovenko M.Yu. made a working visit to University of Trento (University of Trentoand Edmund Mach Foundation (The Edmund Mach Foundation) in San Michele. The visit was another step in the development of the department's international scientific and educational partnership, which actively implements digital solutions in energy, agroecology, and data analytics.
Meetings with scientific Partners
During the visit, substantive meetings were held with representatives of:
- Faculty of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI);
- Centre for Agro-Competencies;
- University of Trento International Office;
- by the scientists and administration of the Edmund Mach Foundation.
Presentation of the department's achievements
During their visit to San Michele, the delegation was acquainted with the Foundation's laboratory infrastructure and its scientific activities in the field of agricultural and food technologies.
In turn, the CTAE department presented research findings in the following areas:
- spectrogram processing;
- hyperspectral analysis;
- Image rendering;
- Creation of an atlas of alternative energy sources.
Cooperation plans and academic mobility
As a result of the meetings, agreements have been reached which open new opportunities for students and lecturers of the CTE department:
- Joint preparation grant project in the field of digital analysis of agricultural and environmental data;
- Collaborative work on spectroscopic data, accumulated by the European side over many years — involving Ukrainian students in research activities;
- Academic mobility, in particular:
- the training of CTE students in the fourth year at the University of Trento;
- acquisition dual degree — Ukrainian and Italian;
- The possibility of continuing postgraduate studies in Italy;
- participation in joint courses, internships, summer schools, research projects in the laboratories of European partners.
The department provides comprehensive support to students during their participation in academic mobility programmes (particularly Erasmus+), document preparation, adaptation to a new environment, and integration into international research communities.
Priority areas for cooperation
Representatives of the DISI faculty have confirmed their readiness for joint activities in the following strategic areas:
- Machine learning;
- human-machine interfaces;
- Computer vision and digital image processing;
- Mathematical optimisation methods;
- Digital energy technologies.
These directions are already actively implemented in the department's educational courses and form the basis of scientific developments by lecturers and postgraduate students.
Next steps
Despite the limited timeframe, the parties agreed to continue discussions on joint initiatives in June 2025 in an online format.
New opportunities for students and teachers
Following the visit:
- New international contacts have been established.;
- Agreements have been reached on joint scientific and educational projects.;
- Partnership initiated with the Edmund Mach Foundation;
- A permanent channel of interaction with the University of Trento has been opened.
This confirms the high level of expertise of the department's academic staff and the recognition of our students' potential internationally.
