Imagine building a complete web-based monitoring system yourself — from the database to interactive maps. You develop the backend with Node.js, design APIs, build the interface with React, secure the application against attacks, and deploy it to a server. That is full-stack development — taking responsibility for the entire application development lifecycle.

React + Next.js + TypeScript — create user interfaces, visualise data, and design user experiences.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE: 5 CORE COURSES

Semester 5

Server-Side Information Systems for Environmental Monitoring (4 ECTS)

🎯 What you will build: A complete web application with a Node.js/Express backend, MongoDB database, and React frontend for displaying environmental monitoring data.

🛠️ Key technologies:

MERN stack: MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js
asynchronous programming and RESTful APIs
JWT authentication and data validation
integration with environmental APIs
Git/GitHub for version control

design data schemas using Mongoose;

Semester 5

Database Design and Use (4 ECTS)

🎯 What you will build: Optimised database structures for storing and processing large volumes of environmental and energy data.

SQL: MySQL/PostgreSQL relational databases
NoSQL: MongoDB document-oriented databases
transactions, locking, and data integrity
query optimisation and indexing
distributed databases and administration

design database schemas for complex domains;
apply SQL and NoSQL technologies to different tasks;
optimise query execution;
maintain data integrity and security;
manage transactions;
administer distributed systems.

Semester 6

Web-Based Development of an Environmental Monitoring System (4 ECTS)

🎯 What you will build: A production-ready web application with geospatial visualisation of monitoring stations, interactive maps, time-series charts, and performance optimisation.

TypeScript — type safety and code quality
Next.js — SSR/SSG for performance and SEO
Leaflet.js — interactive maps and geospatial visualisation
Chart.js/Recharts — data and time-series visualisation
environmental APIs such as SaveEcoBot, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and Open Environment

use TypeScript for type-safe development;
apply Next.js for SSR and SSG;
implement geospatial visualisation with Leaflet.js;

Semester 7

Web Application Security (4 ECTS)

🎯 What you will build: A comprehensive web application security solution that includes penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, and multi-layer protection.

🛠️ Key technologies:

OWASP Top 10 2021/2024 - key web security risks
Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP — professional security testing
JWT, OAuth 2.0 modern authentication
Metasploit, sqlmap — penetration testing
DevSecOps — integrating security into the development lifecycle

✅ Learning outcomes:

classify vulnerabilities using the OWASP Top 10;
identify and mitigate SQL/NoSQL injection, XSS, CSRF, and SSRF vulnerabilities;
implement JWT, OAuth 2.0, and multi-factor authentication;
use Burp Suite and OWASP ZAP for security testing;
implement CSP, secure HTTP headers, and rate limiting;
perform security audits and penetration testing.

Semester 7

Computer Environmental and Energy Management (4 ECTS)

🎯 What you will build: An enterprise energy management information system with consumption forecasting, energy flow visualisation, and energy efficiency optimisation.
