What does real work in IT look like? What skills are needed today? Pupils from School No. 94 received answers to these questions from a person who lives in two worlds at once – lecturer and practitioner Oleksandr Volodymyrovych Volkov.
Oleksandr Volkov is not just a lecturer in the Department of Digital Technologies in Energy at the Institute of Applied Technical Electronics. Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. This is a specialist who combines audiences with real IT projects and student training with software development on a daily basis. It is precisely this experience that makes their story particularly valuable for those choosing their path.
The meeting was structured as an open dialogue about the profession from within. Oleksandr Volkov spoke about Real challenges of the IT industry, about how theory turns into working code, and why a fundamental education at Kyiv Polytechnic Institute gives much more than just the ability to write programs.
The lecturer shared Professional life hacks: how to learn effectively, where to look for first projects, and what resources to use for self-development. School students heard real stories – what work tasks look like in IT companies, what mistakes beginners make, why it's important to understand not only “how” code works, but also “why”.
The atmosphere of the meeting was full of energy. Oleksandr Volodymyrovych instilled in the students the confidence that anyone can become a successful IT specialist. No boring slides – just live communication, real cases, and sincere advice from someone who knows the industry inside out.
Students were actively interested in how to combine study with work, whether mathematics is needed for programming, and which specialisations are most promising. Each answer was specific and supported by real experience.
